Fine Detail.
Striking Contrast.
Acid etching uses a controlled chemical process to create a recessed design, exposing more of the metal’s natural surface for a bold, attractive appearance. It’s excellent for complex graphics, fine text detail, and cost-effective institutional signage in bronze, aluminum, or zinc.

Etched Aluminum Legal Sign — Jones Snead Wertheim Wentworth Jaramillo
A law firm entrance sign using acid-etched aluminum, with deeply recessed lettering that leaves the entire background a striking satin-brushed silver — a bolder, more exposed presentation than other processes allow.
| Plaque Type | Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Aluminum |
| Size | 35″ × 28″ |
| Border Style | Plain Edge |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid aluminum) |
| Raised Surfaces | Brushed Satin Aluminum (silver) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Smooth |
| Unique Features | Full-width horizontal line extending to the plaque edges |
I like the way the firm name is left-justified while everything else is full-justified to a standard width — combined with a plain edge, it makes for a very professional appearance.

Etched Zinc Memorial — Cal Thomas Sutter
Cal was 13 years old when he lost his battle with cancer. His legacy: he always cared about others above everything else. His family formed a foundation in his memory, and this memorial includes his full-color Little League portrait — a detail that draws people in and adds depth to his story.
| Plaque Type | Acid Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Zinc |
| Size | 12″ × 16″ |
| Border Style | Single Line |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid zinc) |
| Raised Surfaces | Brushed Satin Zinc (silver) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Sand texture |
| Unique Features | Alumicolor™ panel (5.75″ × 7″) with a full-color image of Cal |
I was very glad such a high-quality photo of Cal was available — it helped us create a fitting tribute to his courage and helps people make the connection to the foundation created in his memory.

Etched Zinc Plaque — Sarah Rose’s Garden at Ridge Wood Elementary School
A small garden outside Ridge Wood Elementary, dedicated to former student Sarah Rose Girard. With this plaque in place, every teacher and student who visits discovers just how much Sarah meant to those who knew her.
| Plaque Type | Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Zinc |
| Size | 12″ × 16″ |
| Border Style | Double Line |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid zinc) |
| Raised Surfaces | Brushed Satin Zinc (silver) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Sand texture |
| Unique Features | Custom flower and peace-sign graphics |
This could have been just an all-text inscription, but adding the flower graphic as a tie-in to both the poem and the garden adds a certain charm to the whole presentation.

Etched Bronze Town Hall Plaque — Town of Floyd, Virginia
A small town near the Blue Ridge Parkway with real character — Bluegrass music, wineries, art galleries, and friendly people. The Town of Floyd captured that character in their logo, and their dedication plaque was custom-shaped to complement and reinforce it.
| Plaque Type | Acid Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Bronze |
| Size | 13″ × 10″ |
| Border Style | Double Line |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid bronze) |
| Raised Surfaces | Brushed Satin Bronze (gold) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Speckled |
| Unique Features | Custom-shaped to match the town’s logo |
The Town of Floyd, population 432, has a great logo — a reflection of their small-town setting near the Blue Ridge Mountains. A rectangular plaque would have worked fine, but this custom shape added style and character that wasn’t possible otherwise.

Etched Zinc Dedication Plaque — Sheridan Area Rural Fire Protection District
A brand new facility built to properly serve the rural residents of Sheridan, Wyoming — and this dedication plaque, reproducing the district’s Maltese cross in fine detail, was the final touch.
| Plaque Type | Acid Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Zinc |
| Size | 18″ × 20″ |
| Border Style | Single Line with Plain Edge |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid zinc) |
| Raised Surfaces | Brushed Satin Zinc (silver) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Sand texture |
| Unique Features | Plain-edge border surrounding a thin single-line border |
So many people were involved in this project that horizontal lines were used to visually group them for the reader. A textured band outside the raised single-line border gave it distinctive styling, and acid etching was the only process that could reproduce the district’s Maltese cross graphic in such fine detail.

Etched Aluminum Professional Plaque — Monte Greenawalt and Foot Levelers
A plaque that tells a story without feeling like it’s telling one — colorful and inviting enough that visitors stop and read the full account of Dr. Greenawalt’s impact on the chiropractic profession.
| Plaque Type | Etched |
|---|---|
| Material | Aluminum |
| Size | 34″ × 28″ |
| Border Style | Bevel Edge |
| Back of Plaque | Flat (solid throughout) |
| Raised Surfaces | Smooth Satin (silver) |
| Recessed Surfaces | Painted (black) |
| Texture in Recessed Area | Smooth |
| Unique Features | Full-color logo with a simulated reflection, added as a separate piece |
Only the logo adds color to this plaque, and only one main color was used. Small, discrete touches of professionally-designed color like this can make a more polished impression than using color across the entire surface.

What Etched Plaque Customers Say
“As I write this note on Christmas morning, I have to tell you: you have given us the best present of the year. Sawyer’s plaque arrived yesterday, on the anniversary of Sawyer’s arrival and death. It was eerie, it was heartbreaking, it was uplifting. You have created the most perfect memorial we could have asked for.”
Dianne J. Thibado — Eagle Bay, New York
“I recently purchased three plaques from Innovative Signs for my sister’s memorial garden. I’m a detail-oriented person with lots of questions, and Lisa Garvin very patiently answered all of them about materials, process, and mounting. I was very pleased with the quality of the plaques themselves — my family and I love them, and they add so much to the garden.”
